This is Chris’s first solo book and focuses on his paintings of British birds. Many of the pictures are of common species seen in the countryside around his home in the Scottish Borders. A light-hearted but informative commentary accompanies each painting, with anecdotes describing the inspirational background to the picture and details of the creative processes involved in painting it.

‘Foreword by Robert Gillmor…. Wonderful paintings, excitingly presented at a good size. Chris helpfully presents some field sketches and composition studies. The finished paintings oil or acrylic on board, grab the attention, their high degree of realism based on acute observation, excellent draughtsmanship, skilled composition, a fascination for light and colour and clearly a love of his subjects.’

                   RSPB Birds magazine Spring 2006

‘His work is a breathtaking interpretation gloriously illustrated in colour…. Illuminates the creative process’

Bruce Pearson BBC Wildlife November 2005

‘This book is everything a good bird book should be. The production is high quality, printed on good paper, with excellent colour reproduction and a spacious and elegant design. I suspect that once you see this book you will realise that you need to have it’

Alan Harris British Birds 28 November 2005

‘For my Natural history book of the year I have chosen a beautifully produced volume In A Natural Light. It brings the reader a warm feeling of joy at the sheer beauty of nature. Chris Rose is arguably Britain’s finest bird artist.’

Stephen Moss Guardian 26 November 2005

‘A magnificent bird art book….. I am sure readers will thoroughly enjoy reading his accounts of how each work came into being.’

Robin Cox Birds Illustrated Winter 2005
