'It has been said that art begins where nature ends. In the case of the work of Carl Brenders, art and nature blend in a seamless continuum.' These are the words of Robert Bateman describing the work of Carl in the foreword to Pride of Place.

This is a celebration to honour the remarkable talent of the legendary Belgian wildlife painter, Carl Brenders.

Illustrated in colour throughout, this book is a must for any lover of wildlife art. Carl describes the inspiration for many of the paintings, and his philosophy on wildlife art. It also gives a rare insight into Carl's work by showing some of his preliminary sketches.

'Carl Brenders is a Belgian artist who is immensely popular in North America, and this latest addition to the impressive Langford Press stable has been produced in conjunction with Mill Pond Press, the company that has published 160 of his works as limited edition reproductions.

Looking at the superbly reproduced images, one is soon aware that Carl is fascinated by the minutiae of life-every feather, piece of fur, lichen or rock is rendered in amazing detail.

So often, super-realist works like this can tighten up and finish up looking wooden reproductions of photographs, but I don't think even the sternest critic could level this charge at Brenders...The book features sumptuous paintings of animals and birds from America, Europe, Africa and asia and ends with a section called the Butterfly Collection. Interspersed are two essays from the artist himself on The Use of a Camera in Wildlife Art and My Philosophy....Paintings of mammals dominate, with 89 in full colour compared to 51 bird images and 17 vignettes of butterflies. Most of the works are dated and its interesting to see that the most recent work looks looser than that of the 1980's. This is one artist who gets better with age and I can only recommend you seek out this book.'

'His lynx fur is different from wolf fur or moose fur. His golden eagle feathers are not the same as those of a great horned owl. When you look at his depiction of moss he wants you to be able to almost smell it.'

'What a magnificent book! Open it at any page and it is breathtaking'
